PostSubject: Pokemon Spiral (Prev. Bronze/Brass/Copper)   Tue May 24, 2011 2:15 am

Hi everyone. If you've been following Baron's intro thread you may know that I'm making a Pokemon game. Well, I was planning on revealing this later, but I guess I can't wait any longer. These games (Bronze and Brass, then Copper later if I do it like that) feature all 649 Pokemon. They will have the base stats and stuff that they have in the regular games. I only have to program in the Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed until all base stats are done. This game is going to be big.
You can pick any of the fifteen starters.
I will attempt to put as many Pokemon as possible in the wild.
I haven't completely decided on a storyline yet. If you'd like to help with that I'll put you in the credits.
Anyone want to help bug test? I'll put you in the credits if you do. Mainly what I'm looking for is people to check on the base stats- I'll have an easy way to check if you want to help.
Also I could use a world map image and routes/towns. Images and (in the case of routes) wild Pokemon. I'm using the overworld sprites (signs, grass, path, buildings, etc) from Gen III.
If you want, I could use battle backgrounds.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

err, in what system is that playing? GBA, NDS or what? anyway, ive got a plot: mix this and my idea well here it is:

Like always, evil lurks. Team Dream lurks the area, with the commanders Venus, Theo, Guy and others. They have their cyborg, Siarnaq, which is an extremely hard trainer robot to beat. He's like a Battle Frontier brain. And then there's this guy, NPC, Alberto Del Guzman, a rich guy who came from a big royal family will be robbed by Team Dream. Team Dream's grunts will be knocked down by his bodyguard, 6 footer and almost weighs like Big Show, Rufus Clay. Then Team Dream will have Alberto as their number 1 target for knocking down the grunts. Then Alberto's royal family and connections of his father will be at war with Team Dream. Then the hero, or you, the character, the protagonist will meet Alberto as he fight Team Dream grunts in a Pokemon battle, you double battle with Del Guzman and he'll be liking you and have him and his bodyguard and PA as friend. Then you will be in contact and accomplish quests from him and as it goes on, you will embark on a journey with him and you and the royal family will think of ways to attack Team Dream. The royal family's connection will be battling Team Dream grunts while Alberto and the protagonist infiltrate inside Team Dream's HQ and reach the commanders, having a double battle, then another double battle against the other 2 commanders. Then after beaten, Siarnaq, the robot that you beat, will appear and will show up as their general's right hand along with Gemini, general's left hand and, Rufus will get on the scene and quickly heal your Pokemons to full and collide in a battle against them two which is hard. It's like battling a Frontier Brain and a member of Elite 4. If you beat them, the general will show up and it'd be 2 on 1 match since he has two legendaries and then after you beat them, the region will be proud and Alberto and you the protagonist will be well-known and after that, you get to challenge Elite 4 like normal games and there.

On the embarking adventure thingy, he'll be your friendly rival and as you walk, he'll be like Pokemon, following you, at your back wherever you go. In gyms, you fight first then after fighting, gym leader will rest his Pokemon and Del Guzman will battle and will always win so you have badges. When it comes to Elite 4, it'd be double battle against Elite 1 and Elite 2, followed by Elite 3 and Elite 4. Then the champion, will not allow the two of you to battle him because there cant be two champions at once. He'll allow you to get out of Pokemon League and heal your Pokemon then you battle, whoever wins gets to challenge champ. If you win, well, you challenge champ, if you lose, you keep getting tries until you beat him like the games where you have no choice than to win xD.

On wild pokemon, for Alberto to gain Pokemon, wen walking in tall grasses, Alberto will encounter Pokemon as well and you have two choices, watch the battle or just skip it.

What do you think? Feel free to modify some. :D I can help with the sprite but it might be 50% crappy in color quality.

The battle backgrounds, try seraching around for Castlevania, Final Fantasy battle backgrounds, or if not, then just use the canon backgrounds, its a fan based for gods sake. then put the website in the credits and who made the sprite if there is a name. Also, if you liked my idea, put my name on the credits: The Awesome One

Er... I'll think about it...
Anyways, what I had in mind was this (know that this is very incomplete):
Team Supernova goes around, capturing legendary Pokemon. They tell the public that it's because they don't want them to turn against people and hurt them, but it's really for their own gain.
I don't have much...

If you can make them into .NDS files I'd be able to play them on my DS lol.

I like Quib's story, just what legendaries to center it around? If I were you, I would centre the main storyline around Mew and Mewtwo, or maybe the Legendaries of the Lake, but make all legendariesyou capture require you to beat some Team Supernova guys before it.

I'll help test for bugs if you want. A beta-tester I think is the term

@Namine Sorry, it's gonna be an .exe
Alright, I haven't forgotten about this, I simply haven't had time to finish it. A couple days ago I programmed in the Sp. Attack, but I still have Sp. Defense and Speed, then I'll upload it to the world wide interwebs and I'll give you assignments. And if I do a bit of crazy speed-coding I could probably finish it tonight...
Also, I'm not sure if I like Bronze, Brass or Copper. What does everyone think of Antimony/Bismuth? I'm very open to suggestions if you can think of anything.

Cobalt, Mercury, Uranium?

Or maybe titanium, I dunno. Get a periodic table and look at all the metals, which one you like best?

But wait, is there gunna be two versions of the game released at once, like Ruby and Saphire or Red and Blue, but then what will be the version differences if all Pokemon are obtainable?

Sp. Defense is in, now i just have to do the Speed. (Adding base stats is a grueling and mind-numbingly dull process; I could never convince myself to do two in one day.)

On names, I'd prefer names that have never been used before at all- so that Googling it doesn't return any results except mine.

I promise I'll finish the Speed today, then you guys can all start the [sarcasm]fantastically exciting[/sarcasm] task of checking the accuracy of Base Stats. Just post your findings here. What this will be is basically just where you scroll through Pokemon and it displays its base stats. Since it's an .exe you'll need a PC, or a Mac that runs PC applications.

Also, I'll want to know how well it runs on your computers- it goes perfectly smoothly on mine, and mine has crappy RAM, so I hope that's a good sign.

I'm considering just releasing one version because there's not really any plus-side to doing two... And the only things I could do differently between them is to have different Pokemon appear in the same area, or make trainers have different teams.

@Doragon Who knows, it may run... Maybe... Just let me know if it does.

Another thing: There's a chance that you'll see a shiny Pokemon when checking stats- if you do consider yourself lucky because it has the same chances as finding one in the regular games.

So yeah, more details later today.

Finished!
I added the Speed, so now the stats are ready to be checked for errors. (Actually it was ready about 8 hours ago, but somebody is always on the computer here.)

Click here to download it (5.1 MB).

SO! The first thing on the agenda is to check the Types and base stats. They should be reasonably accurate, but you never know. Just scroll through each Pokemon and see if it has the correct base Hp, Atk, Def, etc. You can check it against whatever you like (Bulbapedia, Serebii, anything) as long as you're confident that it will be correct.

Anyways, Darknesslord, I have not actually done any of the map yet- feel free to make one- or part of one- if you want.

The controls:
When you start up the game you should see Bulbasaur sitting off to the right of the game window with its base stats and types around it. Either use the scroll wheel on the mouse or the up and down arrow keys to move through the Pokemon. When you move to a new Pokemon, it may be shiny. Take a screenshot with F9- it's just as rare as finding one in any normal game. (Actually this only happens because I didn't intend this to be a bug-testing tool at first. I'd already programmed Shinies in, and I was too lazy to take them out XD.)

So yeah! You can get started any time, though sooner is better. And I understand if you want to back out- this isn't the most fun thing in the world. Report anything that seems even the tiniest bit like a problem here. Happy testing!

Yes, but a function of the game is to take a screenshot by pressing F9. Also, you can press F4 to make it go into Fullscreen mode, but obviously that would make it harder to check types/stats etc.

@Pride Well I'm going to be using B/W back sprites for the Pokemon- you know, so that the whole Pokemon is in the "shot" (that way I also don't have to do a bunch of extra work towards positioning them :P). But why use the HGSS sprites/tiles? And I've already done a bit of work towards using the 3rd gen tiles, seeing as this is a single-screen game like gen 3. Although maybe I could use the character sprites from B/W to give it a more modern feel... Hmmmmmmm........

@DL It's okay, just post when you have access.

What OW sprites are you using? In my opinion, gen IV and V OW sprites look fine together, and the gen V and IV tilesets look fine with eiter sprite. Dont worry about the whole single screen/multi screen thing for Gen IV as the touchscreen doesnt really do that much. Just do whatever you want, really. Btw is this made in Game Maker?

Yeah, Game Maker. I'm coding the whole thing completely from scratch so I have infinite leg room XD. And as I mentioned above, I've already put in quite a bit of work towards gen 3 OW tiles- however, it's nothing that can't be reversed with a bit of work. Come to think of it I think I'll use trainer sprites from 3, 4 and 5.
